Explaining the process of recycling your scrap cars.
Car recycling may seem complex, but it’s a relatively straightforward process, driven by advanced mechanics and specialized machinery. Here’s a quick overview of the key steps involved, starting from when the car arrives at an Authorised Treatment Facility:
Depollution
Cars contain various fluids and metals to ensure they function properly, but many of these substances are hazardous. The first step in the recycling process is depollution—removing toxic materials like oil, brake fluid, batteries, and airbags (which can be explosive). These are safely disposed of or recycled.
Dismantling
After depollution, the car is dismantled. Whether it’s an end-of-life vehicle or one that’s been written off, valuable parts like the engine, transmission, and electronics are carefully removed. These parts are either refurbished or repurposed for reuse.
Shredding
Once the vehicle has been dismantled, the remaining body is shredded into small pieces using specialized machinery. This step helps break down the car into smaller components, making it easier to separate metals, plastics, and other materials for recycling.
Separation and Sorting
Following shredding, materials undergo sorting processes to isolate valuable components. Magnets are used to remove ferrous metals, while eddy current separators help isolate non-ferrous metals like aluminum. Other materials like plastics are also separated for further recycling.
Recycling
Now, the separated materials are sent to specialized facilities for recycling. Metals are melted down for reuse in manufacturing, plastics are recycled into new products, and other materials may be repurposed as fuel for energy recovery.
Anything that can’t be reused, recycled, or repurposed is disposed of responsibly, with minimal impact on the environment. We prioritize reducing landfill waste as much as possible.
